Odd Future

LA underground hip hop scene took over Jim Fallon last week as the front men for Odd Future Wolfgang Kill Them All (OFWKTA) Tyler, the Creator and Hodgy Beats performed their hit "Sandwitches" and are now the talk of the overtown. If you haven't laid your ears on this yet, do it. You might even see a cameo from their biggest fan, Mos Def.

Adele

So rarely does an artist give me chills every time I hear their voice. James Corden intros and extros it perfectly so I’ll just keep it simple in saying that this performance is nothing short of breathtaking. Its so raw and heartfelt that she even chokes at the end of the song. I dare you to try to not be moved.

Lissie

I love me a good cover that makes you hear a song in a completely new light. Here's the daily dose...



which lead me to totally falling in love with this Mississippi (is it weird everytime I spell 'mississippi' i say the crooked-letter chant out loud out of pure pleasure?) alt-rock beauty, Lissie, who is often compared to a new-wave Stevie Nicks. She's pretty fresh on the the scene, having just played SXSW, but her Gaga cover is the talk of the town. Here's her original single, In Sleep:

Florence and the Machine

Did Florence round 2 last night. She had originally scheduled at the Phoenix (a mid sized venue, bigger than MOD club where she performed the first time around) but the tickets sold out so quickly, she upgraded to the Kool Haus. Its crazy the venue size jump she was able to sell out in only 5 months difference. I've seen a lot of bands have such a hard time performing in that space in regards to engaging the audience since its such a huge stand-only type venue, but I am still in awe with how she was able to be so captivating in it.

Florence, along with her machine, are definitely one of those must see live bands, because even though their cd is so amazing, the live show brings a whole new life to the music. Its as theatrical as it is musical, and it truly consumes you. All I have to say is if I had her voice, I don't think I would ever speak. All communications would be only in song. The fashion on her (and in the crowd) is a whole other experience in itself - Flo was sporting a black cape, black leather shorts and a black mesh longsleeve, with leather accents. The set list one upped itself song, after song, even though Swimming & the Bird Song where noticeable missing (and her cover of Cold War Kid's Hospital Beds which she performed @ Mod Club). I guess a girl can't ask for it all. For me, the show stealers were Dog Days Are Over, Between Two Lungs & the Drumming Song. On a scale of 1 - 5 I'd give this show an 'amazeballs'.

Lisa is performing at Dick Mac's Pub, a local in Dingle, Ireland [I know, right..] that was converted from an old leather shop. I've read a few reviews and apparently the beer flows freely and the people are very welcoming.

Lady Gaga

I have to admit, I definitely grew a new appreciation for Lady Gaga after seeing her soundcheck at the MMVAs. She was on SNL earlier this week and proved to me again that she's not just another pop-auto-tune-lip-syncher. I'm convinced that this will either make you lover her more or convert any of you haters out there because as crazy as she seems, love her or hate her, she's an entertainer.

Honestly, who said Britney was the Madonna of our time?

Black Cab Sessions

Oh you know, just a casual cab ride through London-town, with musicians and their instruments. Black Cab Sessions is this online series that invites artists to play an acoustic set in the backseat of a cab car. It is hilarious to see them crammed into the backseat with their guitars/keyboards, having a little jam session.

I love how BCS aren’t particular about how famous the artist is, the only two rules are that they must be live and they must be fabulous. Simply put: its a great time with great music. Honestly I am a bit overwhelmed with what videos to feature because there are so many to choose from with 150 sessions just from London, featuring artists like Grizzly Bear, Jens Lekman, Lykke Li, The Cool K ids, Peter Bjorn and John, Little Boots, Bombay Bicycle Club, Maccabees, Noah & the Whale, to name a few.
